The acarya is not under the sastra.

Excerpt from Bhakti Vikasa's 3 volume "Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Vaibhava"
"He said, 'Bhaktivinoda Thakura is Kamala Manjari, a personal associate of Radharani. He ordered me to establish daiva-varnasrama. I must obey his order. The acarya is not under the sastra. The acarya can make sastra. Bhaktivinoda Thakura, the acarya, has inspired me in various ways.
By his mercy and that of Gaura Kisora dasa Babaji Maharaja and the previous acaryas we are going on, not caring for the precise technicalities of smartas.”

  1. Hare Krishna. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. This is most correct. The Acarya not only due to need according to time and circumstance, is not under sastra, but he is not under past acaryas and rishis. The Acarya may do things that are very different to even his own guru! In the case of Jesus, John the Babtist gave initiation ceremony using water, but Jesus did it using fire. Bhaktisiddhanta sarasvati Maharaja, had his followers chant 64 rounds, but Srila Prabhupada, had his followers chant only 16 rounds. I big difference!! These changes are made by the true sampradaya acharya due to need according to circumstance, under the authority of their guru and Lord Krishna. Their guru and or Lord Krishna, dictate from within the heart of the sampradaya Acarya, exactly what to do according to time and circumstance. They can do so, because of the purest heart of the sampradaya acharya. With the order from within the heart, also comes the empowerment for the sampradaya diksa guru, to be victorious in fulfilling the order. This is why Srila Prabhupada is being victorious with the order for ritviks to conduct the initiation ceremonies as part of initiating his disciples, after his very original body is "no longer" seen. (Many see his original body still in dreams etc) In this way, Srila Prabhupada is always initiating thousands of disciples, who will keep the his original teachings, ever expanding fame, honour, prestige and worship of His Divine Grace going for thousands of years to come.
